Hi
My daughter is on waiting list for another primary and i need help filling out the form. she has Anxiety which has been caused by behaviour in the current class. various issues and teacher isnt able to control class. I need to demonstrate why the school i have applied for suits her needs.
i have a letter from GP naming the school she does not have a EHCP
we are currently 1st on the waiting list but any child that joins pushes us back

thank you

Unless there is more to this than you have posted DD is unlikely to be considered under the social or medical needs criteria. The bar is high. Does the GP letter state in their opinion school X is the only school that can meet DD’s needs because… or does it say mum says or the school is good because…

Waiting lists are ordered based on the admissions criteria. Does this school have a medical needs category? If not it will be based on other criteria e.g. siblings, distance etc. Unfortunately what you write regarding anxiety won't make much difference.

You could consider appealing and using your information. Although this is likely to be stressful and not necessarily successful, as the bar is high. If your child is year 2 or lower, so infant class size, there's pretty much no chance unless there has been an error.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Make an application for your daughter to be considered under exceptional medical/social needs, in the admissions criteria? That won't get you a place though, it just affects your place on the waiting list.

Are you trying to appeal for a place? Which year group?

Yes as others say, the waiting list goes in order of admissions, so usually distance.

A GP letter saying the school would suit your child is more relevant for appeal- is that what you're planning as well?

mummyof23 · 11/12/2023 16:51

No i understand that. She is currently 1st on waiting list but only by distance. so anyone that joins will automatically push her down and that will be the same for any school we apply for.

If Rule 2 is given she wont move down the list

Im not looking to appeal at the moment, this will be for Y3 in yr transfer

Ok - so what exactly does the needs criteria say? They differ widely between schools.

An appeal is definitely worth a try for year 3 as well.

I’m not sure what you mean by Rule 2 form? Do you mean the medical/social over - subscription criteria? As others have said, this is a hard one to prove. The GP letter would have to be very clear about why your child needs to go to this school in particular. It can’t just be about her needing to move from one school to another school. An example of what might be accepted would be things like a child in a wheelchair needing a place at a school because it has a lift.

She won’t necessarily get pushed down the waiting list if someone else applies. Won’t it depend on where they live?
