I am now a peripatetic music teacher, although I have done a bit of supply. I was self employed for a while but now a mix of employed/self employed.

I love it!!!!
much less stress
still term time only (and in fact I have some flexibility with getting to my own children’s sports days/events)
a pay cut in that I only work 30ish weeks a year but I usually top this up with extra lessons

100% the right decision for us

I work in Human Resources. Pay dropped initially but then increased much faster than it would have been teaching. I’m on a tiny bit more than I would have been if I’d still been teaching and followed the teacher pay scale, but I’m also still very junior in terms of role so there’s a lot of progression I could go for if I wanted to. Plus I’m a lot happier.

I took a 4k pay cut to go into HR from teaching, but since then, 8 years on, I’ve doubled my salary from first HR job to now. If I was to go for progression in my current organisation that would increase my current salary by 20%.

I don’t get as many holidays - 41 including bank holidays - but in a way I get more as they aren’t spent planning and marking.
