DD is in year 2 at a small village school. It's supposedly outstanding but it largely propped up by very lovely and very involved parents. We are going to look at The Manor, St. Hugh's and Chandlings. Any I'm missing? Fantastic teachers matter more than facilities.

I have experience of Chandlings and The Manor. I would choose the Manor every time, especially being a girl.

@1587S Could you explain why? I have a very averagely academic girl and worried the Manor may be too much for her?

Chandlings is boy heavy. Didn’t deal with bullying, and had favourites. But that was just my experience.

I wouldn’t worry if she’s average academically, mine was too, but she thrived at the Manor. Made friends as there are lots of choice of girls, unlike Chandlings.

Overall, my daughter was happy there.

Can I ask where your daughter went after the Manor? @1587S

My children thrived at St Hugh’s having moved from our local primary. The school went through a tricky time for a few years but the new Head has been very well received and there’s a real feeling of positivity. We found the teachers to be exceptional - really caring and quickly transformed our children’s attitude to school. Sports and arts are strong. It’s a very friendly school, kids are happy and well mannered.
We looked at 5 schools before choosing St Hugh’s. It’s worth doing your research and arranging to look around as many as possible. You’ll get a feel for what’s right.

Sorry to revive an old thread!, but @Lupiccione if you're still around, I'd be very interested to know what your final decision was! We're stuck 50;50 between Chandlings and Manor, and I can't for the life of me think of which one to go for. The both have good points, I feel like Manor is slightly more academic - pushing but then Chandlings equally sends a decent amount to SHK each year which is the end goal for 7 years time..

Any current feedback you have would be appreciated!

Samethingtwice · 27/11/2025 15:39

@OneOrTheOther I’d choose the Manor every time for a girl especially if you’re hoping for SHSK at the end. We’ve had a lot of girls move from Chandlings to the Manor.

Thanks @Samethingtwice that's helpful - it sounds like you've got professional experience regarding this?
would you be able to let me know more specifics? Happy for a PM if you don't want to write it publicly!
