Kumon or similar -good idea or no?

I’m thinking about t for my soon-to-be-secondary child. He is bright. Missed out on a selective school and will now be going to the local comp. Has an interest in a STEM career, so I was trying to think of something extra curricular he might be able to do to help that along.

I think Kumon is quite Marmite from the reviews I’ve read online. We did tutor for 5 months and I’m not adverse to going back in that direction. I just wondered about something like Kumon or Singapore Maths as a concept to run alongside his schooling? I ideally want a venue I can drop as he seems to work better outside the home where the distractions are less.

I took my DS to Kumon when he was about 7, and I lived overseas. The international school was pants and one day I got a call to say he needed to go to a maths support group.

I didn’t believe he was not good at maths so I took him to kumon. It’s very repetitive but I think it sets an amazing foundation for maths. Fast forward to today and my son got a 9 in GCSE maths, an A in admaths, and is predicted A* at maths A’level and he loves the subject.

So, er, yes, I rate kumon.
