Moving aboard

When moving aboard do we need to tell our local council?

I'm just a bit worried as I've heard stories of councils fining parents for their children being out of school, so I don't want there to be any problems if moving back to the UK. For reference I live in Manchester.

Do we just tell the school we're leaving to move aboard and that's it?

Do you have firm plans to move abroad shortly and a place for your child at a school in the place where you will be living?

Just inform school you are moving and deregister them.

We are planning to move in a few months but are still in the process of looking for a school.

Okay thank you.

I would send a short e-mail to Manchester City Council and seek clarification as to what you need to do.

An e-mail address which would get you to the right department initially seems to be:

[email protected]

PS

I would also start a thread about schools in the area you are moving to.

There are bound to be posters on MN who live there and who can share recommendations with you.

It sounds like an exciting move for the whole family!
