Has anyone had good results using Atom Learning?

Looking for resources, please recommend if you have any that have worked for you.

Thanks.

I've used Bond series and Thomas Tolkian website.

SamPoodle123 · 03/10/2023 09:53

Yes, we liked Atom learning. It is not perfect, but felt it was very useful for prep.

Paddingtonthebear · 03/10/2023 14:11

Yes we used Atom and found it helpful. I have a code to get a trial and then first month half price, Le let me know if you would like it. We’ve stopped using the site now so makes no difference to me either way :)

Slothlikemum · 03/10/2023 16:04

We didn't get on with Atom as it didn't replicate the experience of sitting and doing papers enough and DS didn't engage with the answers to questions he got wrong - he's very competitive and just focused on score - so didn't feel he was learning from it. You'd have to sit and do it with them if your child is like mine.

We used CGP books and then some resources from https://exampapersplus.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAjw9-6oBhBaEiwAHv1QvG6z6knegM5ivD57418XhmNOHxalQKf0hUT28Fo1tJTf7eP5YAAV5xoC9aYQAvD_BwE

Yes, we've used Atom for my daughter and it has helped her. It's true that it is not perfect. It depends of the child, if they are happy learning with computers/tablets.
Her sister is starting her 11+ journey and using it now.

If you want to try it you can use my code, and we both get £30 discount, so you can have 5 days trial + the first month for £9.99 for the Core Curriculum option. Kids don't need to start mock tests until May/June.

Hi. I just wanted to know as coming up to finding out soon. If they don’t get the ticks in the box (indication they can apply for schools) can you still apply? I was unsure how many extra over and above the places they send letters too? I’m hopefully my DS will be indicated to apply. Just wondered if it’s still worth applying and appealing anyway? They are in the top of year and greater depth but I think the anxiety got them test day so not sure how it will go.

Sorry for rambling! Hope it made sense.

SuperGinger · 12/10/2023 12:16

I thought Atom very good as it gets you thinking fast but it isn't everything.

Questionsquestions134 · 13/10/2023 09:56

Atom was ok initially but I felt the paper tests were better for replicating the actual test.

Atom is good for learning content independently and for preparing for the ISEB test (which is online). It can also be helpful when doing tests to time. I think the English section isn’t that great - we only used the VR, NVR and maths.

It doesn’t help prepare for different exam styles though. A lot of children by us used it to prepare for the grammar 11+ and were scoring highly, but came unstuck in the exam as it was paper based with a separate machine readable answer sheet and they hadn’t practiced that physical aspect.

Carefully research the exact exam formats your child will be sitting and teach to that.

Paddingtonthebear · 22/10/2023 13:37

DD has just passed the 11+. We had Atom from May to September plus CGP test papers and the 10 minute test book. Atom is good but you need written practice papers too.

modgepodge · 22/10/2023 17:46

Sorry to hijack a bit…

Do people who now have 11+ results feel the atom standardised scores were a reliable indicator? I ask as a teacher who uses it…I had a class sit a mock test in June and not one got a SAS which would count as a pass in our area (and the mock claimed to match to that county). In September 70% of them passed. I emailed atom who just said ‘they must have had a bad day’ (all of them…twice? For VR and as NVR? Hmmm) We have also had questions from parents in lower year groups where the homework tells the parent the child is behind, and these are kids who have previously been assessed by school as working at/ahead of expectations.

I do think the resources on atom are great, but I question the scores they give.

DibbleDooDah · 22/10/2023 19:25

We were told to add 7-10 marks to every SAS Atom score to give a comparable “real life” score. Was a very good indicator and did largely reflect success in the real exams.

SwanHK · 23/10/2023 22:51

we find atom learning very useful. we started 11+ curriculum in year 4 spring term, only subscribed the plan without mock test at that time. After the start of year 5, we upgraded with unlimited mock test. We particularly find useful for Maths and verbal. For non verbal, we prefer paper practice.

We took quite a lot of atom mock tests during summer holiday suppliment with GL assessment mock test. I would say the atom learning one is a bit difficult than GL assessment. FYI, we got rougly 115 of birmingham atom learning mock test. And in realy life it is about 123

My daughter has dyslexia and she has been really engaged with it vs paper/text books.

Worth using their 5 day trial to assess yourself and you can even get £30 off using discount code: umO25EAs

or use this link: atomlearning.com/p/umO25EAs

Questionsquestions134 · 01/11/2023 21:34

A child I know didn't get a place told my child they contacted the school and they were only one place away from passing. They were given a pass mark. Just wondering with schools that do the Yes, no system is it worth an appeal for a place? They don't give marks to people usually unless requested so it's impossible to use as a guide.

It's one of my child's best friends and they are keen to try and get a place together. My child passed. Just thought it would be good if anyone had any appeal info I could pass on.

Thank you.

ece123 · 10/11/2025 11:42

My daughter prefers Atom over hard copy books. I also appreciate that we agreed she will complete whatever is assigned in Atom each week, so I don’t have to constantly remind or monitor which tests she’s doing. If you’d like to try Atom, here’s a link worth £30.
