If I wanted our Son to go to Harrow what realistically are his chances of getting a place?

He is bright and very sociable and at a superb prep school

Bright, social and at a prep school that will prepare him - you probably have a very high chance of getting in, if you register in time. What year is he in?

Year 1 but I know that we need to express an interest by year 5

Year 1! Ok the only school you even need to think about is his current school - is he happy, learning, flourishing and developing his independent personality. Don't make any judgements about what school will suit him until you go round doing school visits and open days in Year 5. Wait and see how he develops over the next 4 years and then a school to suit the child you have, rather than the other way around.

Your prep school should give you clear guidance as well coming up to registration deadlines as to which schools you should be applying for - that's part of the service. But again, this is 4 years away at least.
