Year 6 pre tests

Hi all,

My son is currently in year 5 and we are preparing for 11 plus, although his school does go up to year 8 so 12 plus and 13 plus are an option. I've heard some murmers about year 6 pre tests for 13 plus entry.

Could anyone provide any information about these pre tests please? Are they on the same level as 11 plus? And do they guarantee entry after year 8? I know that may be a difficult question to answer as alot of this is school dependent. We are in herforshire if that helps.

Just looking for some guidance really. Thank you in advance x

As you say, it depends on the schools. But in general, the 13+ entrance has two steps - pretests in Y6 and a further written exam (rare) and/or interview in Y7/Y8. They will be expected to take the common ISEB pretest in the first term of Y6.

It’s easier than the 11+ imo and it helps that it’s computerised. You can prepare using Atom Learning or BofA.

Thank you, that makes sense

Just so you know, a lot of the schools have a deadline in the July of Y5, so you may want to apply soon if you are interested in the likes of Eton or Winchester!

Thank you! I did not know that. Wouldn't want to miss out on Eton 😅
