Hi all. We have two kids who go to a private school in Glasgow (Hutchie) which has seen quite a lot of teacher's strikes of late. Together with a significant rise in the fees, we are considering moving to local comprehensives which in East Ren (where we live) appear to have a good reputation. However, just wondered if anybody else has experience of private school strikes, and any words of advice if taking kids out of private and into local school in the area (as people usually do this the other way round!). Hitherto the schools in East Renfrewshire have performed well in league tables. However with hundreds of new families moving to the area recently due to new housing developments, there are a couple of new primary schools now constructed but doesn't seem to be any new secondary schools for the additional population, so just worried that as the schools are already very crowded to capacity, there may be restrictions on things like subject choices for Standard Grades/Highers etc (e.g. I gather some schools actively discourage kids from doing 3 sciences even if the child wants to, in order to save lab resources etc). Appreciate any thoughts/perspectives or if anyone has any first-hand experience of this kind of decision or has kids in East Ren schools just now what their feedback is. Thanks!
