Moving abroad: do I warn the council about my children?

Hi!

I'm moving abroad with my young children. 2 of them of school age.

We're booking the tickets to fly off in the next couple of weeks 🤞and that means the kids aren't going back to school beginning of September.

Do I need to warn the Council? I know that when kids move school, the Council keeps a track on them and if you were to homeschool, you'd have to let them know. It's good they don't let kids completely fall off the radar. What about moving abroad?!

They were enrolled in a private school and the school knows the situation. (It's not like we paid the fees for this year 😅😅)

Thank you

No, you don't have to tell the council about your children moving abroad, nor would you have to tell the council if they left private school to start home education. You aren't on a criminal register!

If the children were at a state school, it would be polite to inform the school, so the school can plan for the autumn term and your kids' places could go to other children who might be on a waiting list.

I guess you should probably tell the council the date of your departure for Council Tax purposes, so they can finalise your bill.

You dont need to tell the council.

The school will update the records.

You need to tell DWP with regards to any child benefit.
