Talk to me about Smiggle pop out pencil cases…

…my boy is 7 and about to start junior school where he needs a pencil case.

He has seen the Smiggle pop out kind with buttons you press to open different compartments and is hell bent on a Minecraft one. However he needs to take a list of stuff in it including glue stick and highlighter, and I can’t work out if it will fit these things in.

I’ve not seen one in person just trying to work it out by pictures online. Are they a fad or are they practical for school? Thanks

Also he needs a 15cm ruler to fit in it

You can’t really fit much in those cases.

Sorry I think Smiggle pencil cases are pretty useless and will break fairly quickly.

Also expensive for what they are. I would try to avoid that place.

My DC are older now so the appeal isn't there any more.

I'd try to find something else

You can probably get a normal zip up Minecraft pencil case from somewhere like The Works/B+M/The Range/Whsmith etc.

Yes, just get an ordinary Minecraft pencil case.

I teach year two and I'm already imagining having to say 'stop pressing those buttons' ten times a day.

Ha, thanks everyone! As I suspected tbh. I will tell him it’s not possible to fit everything in it. I can imagine the buttons driving teachers up the wall. And also not keen on buying a big lump of plastic only to have it break a few months in.

Urgggh! Smiggle came into existence shortly after DD started secondary. She got a pencil case from birthday money in the shape of a milk carton. Every third child in the class had similar and the school brought out an edict that pencil cases had to be ‘plain’.

Check with school protocols before buying and point out to your DC chances are a good proportion of their class will have similar and it is nothing special.

Decent copies in home and bargain called Scribble pop and £4 each. Glue stick is unlikely to fit, and the pop out bits tend to get jammed.

My twins had one each...broke within weeks and hold very little. Definitely not a glue stick.
