Seems the government want to limit home schooling.

We currently educate our girls aged 8 and 10 at home, gives us flexibility, allows us to travel. In addition our local school has large class sizes.

There is a consultation but it closes tomorrow on 20 July.

Threat to our human rights - another consultation

Stand against proposals infringing on educational freedom, personal privacy, and human rights. Act now to protect the right to home education and defend data privacy. Deadline 20th July.

Education is a choice, not a mandate.

Seriously? THAT is what they are using to fight this? Bloody hell.

Home Education isn't under threat. There's no proposal to limit the right to Home Ed.
There's a proposal to make a register of a Home Educated children so that local authorities can know who they are and properly check that some kind of education is going on.
I Home Ed and I'm in favour of a register.

I have no problem with checks to ensure that no child is missing from education.

Nor on checks being made to show that the Dc are receiving a suitable education. The language is hyperbolic - for example, no-one will face "intrusive surveillance" as that is regulated by existing laws and this doesn't even come close to the thresholds required.

The right to a family life is not being eroded by having checks that the child's right to an education is being fulfilled.

And this consultation isn't even about home education. It's about identifying children who aren't recieving an education at all.
One of the least attractive traits of the Home Education movement, is it's tendancy to view normal safeguarding measures as an attack on them personally.

I home educate and 100% agree with a register.

I had a quick read through your link. What a load of untrue, badly written scaremongering. They come across as some crazy cult who for God knows what reason. Don't want the safeguarding of children to come first.

I think home educators should have to register and there should be checks.
A home educated child is not 'missing from education'.

I can't see why any genuine home educator would be against a register.

However people checking on the education need to take a wide view of education.
