It's bad enough that people are SELLING their essays on Ebay (! Came across this when trying to buy a 2nd hand set book for my latest OU course) but this looks like a professional website!

Why is it allowed??

I'm also an ex OU tutor, and really appreciate all the hard work OU students do....in fact at times I'm gobsmacked at your commitment.

The trouble with poor referencing is in my mind the issue of intentionality. The vast majority of students work damn hard and do not intend to plagiarise, however some do intend to do the minimum and then can claim, they didn;t mean to. They then fit into the same category as the honest mistakers- or do they?? It becomes really hard to see who is genuine and who isn't.

ALot of institutions use turn it in not just to check assignments but also to educate students as they can submit a diagnostic assignment and see if they inadvertently fall into plagiarising. However, most of these online services rely on matching to submissions already on the system and so if two students collude on an assignment it relies on a clever tutor spotting it (remote) or all assignments being electronically checked (Unlkely as could be costly).
