Rolling notice / provisional notice

Do independent schools sometimes offer rolling notice or accept provisional notice? And if so, in what circumstances and how does it work? I can't really go into details, but this relates to a new school that our son is joining in September, so he hasn't even started yet. We know that we are committed to the Autumn term fees now, whatever we do.

Some do, some don't.

If you really want to know, you'll have to ask (awkward as that might be)

You may already be committed to fees up to Easter dependent on their terms. Some are by the last day of the previous term, so if they have broken up for the summer...

Ours agreed to do rolling notice but we had been there a few years and there were exceptional circumstances in our case. You just have to ask but I would find it unlikely before you have even started (if it is over subscribed, if not then I am sure they will likely agree as some money better than none for the space).

I've checked, contract requires notice by the first day of the term to which it relates (so you can leave the following term).

Can anyone explain the difference between the two types of notice:

Provisional - You are giving notice, but you might still want the place and therefore might retract the notice?

Rolling - How does this work?
