Residential trip

My 10 year old has decided he does not want to go on the year 6 residential trip and wants to know what happens if he doesn’t. The school have said he will need to still attend and either sit in another class or the library. Legally does he have to attend school for the week the other children are away or can he stay at home?? Any insight much appreciated.

Legally if you have decide to send your child to school for and education then you should send him. However if he is unwell for the week it would be unfortunate but other than send round an EWO there is not much they could do.

Typically not all children attend a residential so there will be other kids at school. In my ds residential recently, 2/3rds attended, 1/3 stayed at school, had fun days.
why doesn’t he want to go?
if he doesn’t want to go to school what do u do?
legally he is expected to attend school, the residential is a school event.

They have to attend. Generally they will sit in with other classes and help out with some fun things in the younger year groups.

I would say he is poorly and leave it at that. 🙂

Do you really want to take the advice to lie? What a dreadful example to DS. I would wonder why he doesn’t want to go. My DDs couldn’t wait to go away with friends. DD1 went in y2. Does he think his friends are not going? If he doesn’t go, he must attend school. They often sort out something for DCs to do and dump them on other teachers as his teachers will be away.

Did your child end up going? Wondering how it all went of he did.
