Holding college to account... how can we do this?

My sister is weeks away from completing a 2 year vocational diploma at college.
Half way thru there was basically a bit of a mutiny with the course tutors and all but one walked out. They were left without formal lessons or support for months and haf sporadic stand in temps and tutors from other courses. Eventually they recruited more staff and they all continued to hand in their assignments.

Shes finished all course work and exams. Only has 20 hours of placement to complete and college manager has contacted her cohort and said despite it being 'passed' the work isnt up to standard and will need doing so shes unlikely to qualify next month.

It seems so unfair. They basically taught themselves for months. This will damage interviews for jobs she has lined up and she's paid £££££ in fees.

What should she do? College are basically hardly communicating and very little avenues for complaints.

£3500 this course cost! Not to mention paying for membership of professional body, insurance, private therapy and. Client supervision fees every month. I feel so bad for her.

I would put in a formal complaint yes

Presumably the marks have now been moderated and issues identified with the submitted assessments. What is the course if she funded it herself? She can complain but that won't reverse the awarding body's decision.

Has she spoken to the professional body for advice?

Ultimately she won’t get the qualification without doing the work (to the required standard), so it’s about next steps - how are the college going to support them to complete as quickly as possible?

She should be a member of the students union if enrolled at a college? They should help.

Complain. Also ask why it's only being highlighted at this late stage? When was the witness last reviewed and assessed?

No idea. She is meant to be qualifying in a few weeks. I presume they have had some kind of inspection or gatekeeping exercise

Counselling. It was the course fees because she is already working.
