Senior prep (yrs 7&8)

Hi, I’m after some experiences of senior prep…
For one reason or another, DS2 is about to move to a prep school for year 6 and quickly decide whether to sit exams in January (so after one term) for 11+ or 13+ entry. To complicate matters, he moved to a new school for year 5, last September, from his primary school to an independent ‘through school’ which was to be his senior school, but due to changes there we feel it isn’t right for him anymore (not through anything relating to him / his ability).
I think we are all leaning towards stability being the key focus for him right now and so considering senior prep so he can stay and flourish for three years. But I know very little about senior prep - it’s not a route we have considered previously so I am really keen to hear how people have found it and the transition to senior sch in year 9. Would love the good and the bad….

I can’t offer a huge amount but DS is at a boys prep that goes to years 7&8. About 75% stay on and it gives them longer to mature and flourish, and academically they are about 6-12m ahead of the equivalent years at the local boys schools, so when they do move it’s less of an academic shock.
