Box hill verses Downsend

Hi, my son got into both Box hill (academic scholarship) and Downsend for year 7. I understand Downsend only goes to 16 with no GCSE results out yet but the predictive results look good (8 of the kids did a mock exam). If possible I would prefer him to go to the one that is academically better but I know they non selective. Any experience/preference for either school please? Thanks

I haven't had personal experience with either of them but have heard good reports of Box Hill from other parents. Please let us know which one you choose - we will be in a similar position soon.

Box Hill way better in extra curricular possibilities and a nicer location. Also tried and tested at GCSE and option for IB or A levels later. Beware however of any strings attached to the scholarship (minimum grades etc)

That’s great! Thank you! Well I guess minimum grades for scholarship is a good thing as it will help to pull my son’s socks up as he tends to be lazy when it comes to studying! Lol

@Pinkquee How do you find Box Hill School? We are in a similar situation and it would be helpful to have some feedback especially now that there is a new Head appointed.

Hi, we are very happy with Box hill so far. Looking forward to the new head. The last one was great but a tad too soft imo. I’m hoping this one has more of an academic focussed approach rather than holistic one. Saying that my son does get a lot of homework!

@Pinkquee Thank you very much for you kind response. It helps to hear from current families. I might get in touch again next year when we know more. Have a wonderful Christmas!
