Eagle House School - Current Opinions

Does anyone have any recent insight into this school?

I'm considering it for a sporty but not very academic 10 year old and a musical, reasonably academic 8 year old.

I'm concerned by them changing heads twice (?) in one year? Not sure if that has affected the stability of the school?

And about whether everyone goes to Wellington from there. I don't know if the older child would get in there. I doubt it. I wouldn't want them to be the only one going elsewhere (looking at Bradfield or Repton maybe).

Oh yes - just seen there is new head starting. What happened to Jane Jones?!

I don't know - it seems like she was there in March but not in April. I don't know if it was a planned departure. But it seems weird.

I know someone who works there. Difficult year, yes, but generally a very good school in a strong position and I think this is just a bump in the road. It is very Wellington focused though.

Please could I get some comments from current Elstree and Eagle house parents. We are considering between these two. I was drawn to Eagle house but worried that they might just be focused on getting kids into wellington (Winchester college is our first choice for senior school). With Elstree our son has to get on the bus sometimes as it is about 30 mins from us. I just want a bit of insight into their school live, kids experience, prep time and if they kids get to finish their home work in school. Saturday school and prep for senior school.
Please help. You can Dm me .
Thanks in advance

We did big mistake few years ago joining this school. They had 4 different heads in less than a year. Academical support is non existant and zero support from teachers except few. Sport was good before Director of Sport left - now it is abandoned.

@TheBrightPoet thank you. We visited the school and ruled it out immediately even before hearing from you. There was no purpose, no commitment to anything. My instinct don't lie and myself and DH were on the same page with it. Infact I can't imagine paying for what they offered.

Hello, I was trying to find some information on EH. We will be relocating and have a few school options one of them is EH. Can you elaborate on why you didn’t think it is worth the money? We weren’t able to get to the open days so I would like to get other parents opinions.

Hi There, I'm wondering if any of the Eagle House (now Wellington College) mums could help at all. I'm aware Jane Jones was advertised by the College that she was taking up the post of Head and was only in post for a short period before a new head started and Eagle House closed. Jane has taken up a CEO post at Learn-AT academy trust in Leicestershire and parents are concerned about her previous experience as Judge and education in Private education. I wondered if anyone would be able to give any further details around her departure. Thanks.

Jane Thorpe (as she was then) took up her first head teacher (and first job in education) at Swanbourne house. It was a controversial appointment and resulted in many parents voting with their feet. She changed a lot at the school-some good, some bad. I found her a little disorganised and quite cold. She seemed hellbent on implementing change in order to make a name for herself.

She left SHS very suddenly as she had been appointed at Eagle House. I’ve no idea on the accuracy of this, but I heard that there was some kind of disclosure issue there. (I don’t want to say what, as it wasn’t something that she hadn’t disclosed about herself and wouldn’t have affected her work), which made her employment untenable.

she did appear to me as someone who gets bored very easily. Changes things up in her life frequently so take from that what you will!
