How do I write an email to inform my child's headteacher at his current school about taking 7+ exams at other schools? Is an email ok or we should request a meeting in person to inform this? Many thanks!

Is it a state or independent school? Are you contented about their response?

Is there a reason they need to know?

You can send an email to 'expect reference letter requests'. There's no other reason to inform them, and you definitely don't need a face to face meeting.

Ah ok. We were open that ours would be taking an exam at x school, just spoke in person at drop off.

While prep schools don't welcome the idea of pupils leaving, they know it happens and don't really care that much. Some conscientious HTs would look further into it if larger number of pupils try it out than usual - for hints on parents' dissatisfaction.
Just email the school that you're interested in trying out xyz and would appreciate a good reference letter if asked. No need to elaborate.

Thank you so much everyone!
