School staff - LEA asking for access to medical records

Hi, I work in a school (support staff) and I’m currently off work recovering from a planned operation that I’ve been waiting 14 months for. I have been signed off for 6 weeks but I am expecting to be back at work much sooner than that.

I’ve received an email from the school asking me to complete an access to medical records form so that the HR dept from the LEA can ask for further information from my GP. Apparently this is quite common practice?

Although I expect a full recovery and no functional difficulties that might affect my job I’ll admit it makes me feel slightly uneasy. Has anyone else had this?

I wouldn't agree without stipulating that I must see the report and agree it before it was sent to employer.

Well I haven’t been informed why they want access to my records, just that it is ‘common practice’.
Also I would want to see what has been written as the only relevant information shared should be pertaining to my operation.
