Does anybody know what kind of tester children have when applying for sport scholarships at boarding schools like Harrow et cetera?

Each school will have online info about this. Broadly speaking they are looking for pupils who can add value to the schools’ sports teams/results/offerings. Usually athletically able children who have reached county level in at least one sport, ideally one of the schools main sports they compete in on the big Saturday afternoon fixtures (or if the school is known for more niche sports, in that sport).
you'll probably need to put together a sports cv and get written reports from external coaches and then be assessed by the school you’re applying to, possibly on site with other applicants.

They look at a combination of sports CVs and reference letters (for example, participation at county level sport, prizes won etc) as well as performance on the sports scholarship day. Some schools ask you to supply a list of preferred sports to play on the day, while some just keep it open for all sports.
