Dear all,
I am looking to move to Woking close to Gordon school. I just wanted some recent reviews of the school. This is for my DD to start Year 7 as a day boarder. We are looking to move within 700m which I believe is the catchment for day boarders ( correct me if I'm wrong).

I can’t help unfortunately but considering the same for my ds (year 2) in terms of forward planning

arrrhhhh · 03/05/2023 15:19

I'd move closer if possible the distance is only getting smaller ..... even the head? / teacher on an open day - said if you can't see our fields from your house window your out 😂

The catchment area for Gordon's is tiny so you are going to have move to practically on the doorstep and houses are priced around there accordingly.

Just checking you are also aware they offer an extended curriculum which requires fees.

Thank you all for your kind inputs. Yes we are looking to move very close to the school if possible. Would like to know about their pastoral care and academics as well.

What year is your DD currently?

(we looked at doing this but decided against, lovely school for facilities, we do holiday club there, but commuting to London from west end is tough)

DocMu · 06/05/2023 09:04

She is currently in Year 4.

We are in similar boat. We are buying a very expensive property that is about 720 meters from the Gordons School. We feel positive about getting the admission there but please feel free to correct me.
Either way, please could someone share their feedback if their kids went to the School recently or finished the school recently? Would love to hear what real experiences have been like. My son goes to Goldsworth Primary School Currently and would be starting Year 3 this Sept. Please pour your feedback on the School if you can.

You can see the furthest distance admitted on Surrey's website for a number of historic years. It does vary. 720m sounds close but I haven't looked at the stats for years now.

The catchment is bigger than it was pre-20215 as they changed the sibling policy. It's likely to get a bit wider as the current intake is close to the tail end before the birth rate drops off materially.

We've had lots of friends with children there and they've been pretty positive - nowhere suits every child of course. I'd have sent mine there but we're outside catchment.

Thank you for replying lovely mums. There is something in mind though, not sure how to put it. So my son would be a teenager nearly when he joins, and I am thinking about what kind of children would he be around. We are Asian background so sometimes I think if he would be able to easily make friends or if the environment there is tough due to ragging or you know those kind of things that can upset a teenager and make him feel lost or alone.. does anyone have anything to say on this one? by the way my sons born and brought up here in UK so he is more British than Indian but still he is soft hearted and often he doesnt know how to respond to someone teasing him for whatever reason.

Afternoon DocMu. I always enjoy being data centred (plus a bit of faith); We moved into the local area (approx 869m from the school) - and can confirm that our DS got admission for Sep 2023.

You stand a chance by moving to the village.

PS: Even if your DS/DD doesn't make the first cut (like we did), get on the waiting list as things are fluid immediately after admissions with others taking/rescinding their offers. The stats online on past admission outcomes is based on the initial offers... not subsequent ones.

Remember, not everyone in West End aspires for Gordons - others go to alternative state/private schools in the wider area.

@PriyankaSingh I wanted to check in on your post to see if you managed to secure a place for your son? We've best had an offer accepted and will be about 685m away and wondered if it worked for you?? Thanks !
