Which secondaries (private or state) do children from Tetherdown, Muswell Hill Primary or Coldfall tend to go to?

I am considering a move to the area and have contacted the council to see which schools have in-year spaces. Not all three of those schools do, but two of them do.

But I am thinking slightly further ahead to secondary. Which secondaries do the children at each of those schools tend to go to? Perhaps we’ll position ourselves closer to that? (If there’s space in-year, it won’t matter so much for us to be right next to the primary.) I think it’s more important that DC goes to a secondary with the primary friends than it being the super star school though, if that makes sense.

Maybe I’m thinking ahead too much?! I don’t know! Just getting my head around it all!

Also - do many children tend to go to private secondaries? If so, which ones?

State comps include Fortismere, Alexandra Park School (APS), Highgate Wood, Heartlands, Hornsey Girls. Currently there is tight pressure on secondary places, especially at Fortismere and APS (so check last distances admitted), but due to birthrate and other demographic factors that pressure should have eased somewhat by the time your DC gets to that stage.

State grammars: some will take the very competitive exams to Latymer Grammar, Henrietta Barnett, QE Barnet.

Independent (yes, lots go private): Highgate, Channing, UCS, South Hampstead, City Boys & City Girls, North Bridge House Hampstead. Some families prefer green-belt options further afield with coach connections e.g. Habs Boys, Habs Girls, St Margaret’s Bushey, Aldenham.

Not a complete list I am sure, but something to get your thread going!

Thank you! This is interesting - a very wide mix!!

Would you say there’s a majority school for any of them? Presumably the state ones?

Do many go onto private after year 6 or is it a minority?

Almost everyone goes to Fortismere or APS, depending on where in Muswell Hill they live - the catchments are tight. Maybe one or two from each class of 30 to selective or private schools.
