Anyway with DC at Chislehurst school for girls in Bromley?
We are new to the area and DD has been offered a place , we have never seen the school I am only going on website but the grammar stream looks great any feedback on the school in general?
Thanks

It isn’t one of the schools parents rush to send their children to. It has a range of feeder primaries but many don’t choose to put the school down as a preference. I understand the grammar stream’s main difference is the separate sciences for that group rather than combined science. The progress 8 score is actually worse for its higher attainers compared to the others. Total number of GCSEs sat is 8 which is same as Coopers but fewer than some of the schools with more ambition for their pupils. CSG would however be better in my mind compared to Harris Academy Orpington if you get that offered as an alternative.

I don’t know why it isn’t very popular, a friend with a child there says there are some staff issues and a range of cover taking place but don’t think that is unique to this school. It changed its name from Beaverwood School a few years ago to deal with reputation issues.

Hopefully a parent with a child at the school will come along with more information.

Welcome to the area, it is a great location to raise a family.

Thanks @PettsWoodParadise that’s very helpful
in your view is somewhere like Darrick wood better ? Looking at that we may be in catchment just but I was inclined more towards all girls (petts wood Orpington borders)
thanks so much

Darrick is more popular than CSG. They didn’t do great during lockdown though and their 2019 inspection was Good rather than Outstanding but that is in line with lot so schools that had previously had an Outstanding label. It is a very large school with massive intake. So it can be overwhelming for some but I gather they have mechanisms to handle this. It does give fair choice of subjects and pupils generally do 9 GCSEs compared to 8 at CSG. They often have a waiting list for entry but as it is so large they may have in-year places that come up.

Do think about journey times too. CSG would be a couple of buses from Orpington, along very busy and clogged roads.

Thanks again @PettsWoodParadise
Argh !
I am now thinking maybe we try for a place at Darrick wood.
general opinion from having a look around seems to be its better that Chislehurst girls which is a shame as from the website that looks nice . It’s hard not being from the area to know where is best.

CSG is being brought into the Bullers MAT from September, I don't know what that will actually mean in practice but there was a lot of noise about sharing opportunities. My kids are at Bullers.

CSG has never had a great rep but it has got better since it's beaverwood days.
