my kids are already in school and this question hasnt concerned me for a long time.

but as i am buying a house i think i should see how well the local schools are doing.

can someone point me in the right direction - i dont think i ever did this as i only looked for catholic schools as we are bashers of the bible.

Go on BBC news website - education section - put in postcode or town name and it will bring up league tables for the area

GrapefruitMoon · 15/02/2008 16:03

Congrats on the new house btw! Are you staying in the same area?

zog · 15/02/2008 16:03

Are you buying a house?

Start with the county council website - education section. That should give you the info you need re catchment areas. Then the ofsted website for the last report and finally something like the BBC website - eduction section for league tables if you like that kind of thing

Twiglett · 15/02/2008 16:05

also could try upmystreet.co.uk and put in the postcode / area you're looking at

Scramble · 15/02/2008 16:05

Fark its only englishschools onthe bbc site, where can I get legue tables for scotland, have read reports on gov site

Tortington · 15/02/2008 16:35

Are you moving to a new area, Custy?

pointydog · 15/02/2008 16:41

league tables aren't going to tell you that much. Visit the schools.

UnquietDad · 15/02/2008 16:41

I don't want to piss on people's helpful suggestions, but upmystreet can be misleading as it will show what's geographically closest. For my postcode it shows me schools my DCs would never go to.

I agree about BBC News site - it has them all.

Also, our council website has a thingie (technical term) on which you can enter your street name and it will deliver a "Computer Sez No" verdict on whether your child will go to St Chav's, Crunchy Street High or Leafy Lane Aspirational With Nice Uniform.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/02/2008 16:45

[[http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/performancetables/primary_07.shtml Attainment tables here]

There was a good one with the deprivation indices/socio ecomomic stuff but I can't remember the site now.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/02/2008 16:46

Bugger Attainment tables here

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/02/2008 16:51

Neighbourhood stats (not just schools.

Tortington · 15/02/2008 16:55

just for the purposes of selling house in future.

upmystreet is misleading becuase there is an independant school with 100%

no blu i am staying in same town

been here 6 years, but don't have the depth of knowledge that locals have - youknow you say a street name or a school name and they either smile or groan. they ont have to look at upmy street!

ask a friendly estate agent? it's usually in the blurb for well-placed houses. rightmove.co.uk you can do search on what's for sale 1 mile from a postcode

Tortington · 15/02/2008 17:07
