While trying to limit children's screen time at home, are you okay with schools using screens?

Well of course. You do know they use interactive whiteboards, laptops etc.

LittleBearPad · 23/03/2023 23:38

Should they be using slates?

toomuchlaundry · 23/03/2023 23:39

What do you want them to do instead?

DontMakeMeShushYou · 23/03/2023 23:41

Yes, of course.

The days of writing on slates is long gone!

I imagine you’re typing this on a screen? The reality is, that by the time your child is an adult, most aspects of life will be on a screen, they need to know how to manage it in all aspects or their lives… school, work, home, friendships, finances etc. etc. Schools need to prepare children for the future.

The use of technology in education is very well researched, underpinned by pedagogy, and has identifiable benefits. It's not a fad or a whim.

SpideysMummy · 23/03/2023 23:42

Screens aren’t an issue. Mindless drivel on YouTube is an issue, not getting enough exercise or physical stimulation is an issue, missing out on going outside is an issue, not communicating with people ‘in the real world’ is an issue… but screens themselves are fine and very much a part of the modern world.

I especially asked for pre-schools

What are you trying to research? Or sell? Combined with your other question about ebooks it looks more like you have a project than anything else.

SpideysMummy · 23/03/2023 23:49

Well are they popping them in front of Peppa Pig for 6 hours per day or using them to play interactive games, watch a small amount of something relevant to a topic they are learning about etc?

nozbottheblue · 23/03/2023 23:51

Where did you especially ask for pre-schools?
Pre-schools are mostly about play and learning to socialise, with breaks for naps- I wouldn't think screen time would factor greatly in this.

If you had actually said this was about pre-schools, you might have got different answers straight away, but you didn't.

It rather depends on how much time they're spending using screens but even in pre-school some screen time can be useful.

You especially asked who?

MrsDoylesDoily · 23/03/2023 23:56

And what are the screens for?

That's the important part.

Yes, you are right I should have mentioned it
