SW London Sixth Forms

My daughter wants to go to a sixth form college to do her A Levels because she’s fed up of school. She’d be starting them next year in September. She’s predicted 8s and 9s for her GCSEs. She doesn’t want to go anywhere with a school attached. Could be state or private and she can travel around SW and Central London. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

It depends what she wants to study
I assume most private sixth forms have a school attached

Esher College
King's College London Mathematics School
Saint Francis Xavier Sixth Form College

Where do you live re a place at Esher College? Or look at their admissions policy on their website for postcodes/ automatic entry schools. Also note the early application closing date.
For other colleges check out the A levels they offer and a level results.

Thanks both. She has quite a specific subject choice - she wants to do French, Drama/Theatre Studies and Geography (possibly also maths). Lots of colleges only seem to do 2 out of the 3. I’ll look at Esher college - we are more on the tube than on national rail but I know it’s got a good reputation. Thank you.

King's College Wimbledon?

OP said she doesn’t want anywhere attached to a school so that would surely discount KCS and the other excellent state and private 11-18 schools in SW London.

Thank you @doglover90 and @Nowfeeltheneedtopost - frustratingly she’s adamant not a school which is inconvenient! Her current school has a sixth form and also we’re close to Graveney which has a really good sixth form but she’s not keen. I was the same at her age and insisted on leaving my excellent school to go to a giant sixth form - it actually worked out well for me so it’s odd to find myself on the other side wishing DD would just stay at school!

Esher

Esher College is excellent so I’d look at the practicalities of travel there. My DD has an offer there plus at her current school. My DD also has an offer at a 6th form in London which is attached to a school - but has a different location etc - so you could look at the admissions criteria for those type of sixth forms? All state by the way.

Ah sorry, didn't read properly! 😂

Might be a bit far but Harris Westminster sixth form?

Bigbus · 26/03/2023 19:43

@doglover90 i like the look of Harris Westminster but she’s not keen on Harris as a whole. There is a new Harris Sixth Form between Clapham and Brixton which is like her to at least look at but I think the might wear a uniform.
