YEAR & APPEAL FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL

(PLEASE HELP!)
Hi, My daughter passed her 11+ exams for all the Trafford schools and has not been offered a place in the two school that we had applied. Her score is not bare pass, she had scored reasonably well. Stretford school have offered places as far as 3.3 miles as I understand it and we are few hundred meters out. other children who attend the same primary school as her and have scored lower have been offered places but not her. She is absolutely devastated about it. I am considering appealing the decision and was wondering if anyone can help in any way. She is at greater depth in her subjects and headteacher and class teacher will support us on that. I just wanted to ask what kind off evidence should I attach and what has people done on their appeals and if they have been successful. I really struggling as to how to go about it. Any tips or pointers will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

My mistake, last year was 3.59miles on offer day.

This year Trafford are saying 2.84miles on offer day:

Interesting data. Appears some have a bulge class and others must have offered a few over PAN to get all DC s place somewhere in the LA

Thank you for your message, I had a look at the data and as you have said it is interesting and gives an idea how many offers have gone out.

@WiLdChiLD32 Try find out where on wait list you are for Stretford. If you are in top ten you may be ok etc

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to respond and give guidance as well as words of encouragement. it is heart breaking for the child. We only encouraged her based on last years figures and distance as there was a reasonable chance to get a place and of course based on her academic capability.

There are some clubs that Stretford offers that my DD is really interested in and these are not offered at the school she has been allocated would that be sufficient?
Again I am really sorry to keep asking but this is my first experience of dealing with high schools and appealing.
Thank you

What you have said about clubs is on the right lines. It would be better if you had evidence of her interest e.g. the school offers chess club and DD has been attending a chess club at primary and going to competitions. This will give more weight than saying 'DD is interested in trying chess'.

OP were you offered a Local Review (this is for students who score between 324 to 333 I think?). If you were, then go down that route because the chances are very good (about 50% of a place I think). Otherwise, I think your chances of a successful appeal (unless you have a very good case) will be low - Trafford Grammars are notoriously difficult in respect of appeals - stats are 1 or 2 appeals upheld every year out of 30/40/50 that are submitted. I also think there is less movement on the waiting list as it is the "lowest scoring" grammar (i.e. you can pass for Strefford and none of the other grammars).

However as a pp said, you have nothing to lose (other than your time).

Reading all the forums and seeing replies here, it appears that chance of success seems very low. I am just hoping that she is not far on the waiting list and maybe will be able to move up that way. I have to wait until towards the end of the month to find out whereabouts she is on the waiting list.

Daughter is offered a place at another grammar school which she also liked and I have now accepted.
