Caterham or Reigate Grammar

DS will be going into year five in September and we are beginning to think about senior schools. We are currently at a local prep school and Caterham and Reigate stand out for us as potential co-ed senior schools within reasonable travelling distance.
Despite being very active, DS seriously dislikes the sporting Rugby/Hockey fixtures. There is no obvious Neurodiversity, but he is quite gentle, musical and academic. Caterham has told us that it is an expectation that students will turn out for Saturday fixtures whereas Reigate have said that they would like their students to attend the Saturday fixtures, but it is not a requirement. However, someone has told us that RGS is much stronger on the competitive sports side than Caterham so we are left wondering 🤷🏻‍♀️
I would welcome comments from parents with children at either Caterham or Reigate as to what the overall sports/PE curriculum is like, especially how varied it is. Confirmation that Saturday fixtures at RGS are not an expectation would also be welcome.

Hi. I think there is an expectation at both schools to attend Saturday fixtures if selected for a team. In the lower years there can be A, B, C, D and even E teams although it tends to be the top teams that are playing every Saturday. As you progress up the years there is less expectation and usually only a couple of teams per year.
To be honest you will find this sports expectation at every independent school. It's not just about sport, it's about being part of a team and trying something new.

Neither of mine played more than the occasional match or training session on Saturdays at C. However it was not usual for music and drama rehearsals to take place at weekends. They issue a calendar for the term in advance and it shows which takes priority if any clashes. Heard most of the focus at RGS goes on their elite teams.
