No from KCS - chances at Westminster ?

Writing this to ask if anyone has experienced this. My son is very keen on Westminster . He has had a no so far from KCS13 plus. Has anyone had a child who has successfully had an offer from Westminster after being turned down by KCS? Or is this a sign of another no ? I feel I need to manage his expectations and prepare him…..

Manage his expectations anyway, I don’t think KCS being a no necessarily means Westminster will be but they are highly competitive schools and in each scenario you are more likely to not get and offer than receive one. What’s your back up option? Do you have any current offers?

Thank you for your reply. Yes he does luckily already have an offer albeit not his first choice of school. I guess you are right that more “no” letters than “ yes” letters in all of these situations.

Not necessarily. Westminster uses ISEB for stage 1 and these results will be counted in addition to the written exams and interviews. If your DS is good at ISEB or similar computer-based adapted tests, or tests with short questions and answers, instead of a lot of writing in written papers, he will still have a good chance, especially if the other offer you are holding is another top school.

Also, KCS 13+ has only 30 places and Westminster 13+ has 60-70 places. It might not be more difficult to get a place at W at this entry point.

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. Funnily enough now that you mention it, the other offer for a school in Guildford did also use the ISEB as part of its selection process. I didn’t realise that KCS offered only 30 places ! But I wonder if Westminster has a much larger number of applicants

Last year the offers came on 25 Feb so likely to be 24 February this year

Watermelonsalad · 22/02/2023 19:17

I have tried calling the admissions team today about when the offers will be made but no answer.

The email came just minutes after your post.

These are the last results we have. This time a "no". But we got our favored school already. So a happy ending.

Good luck to you.

Just to tie up this thread … we had a NO! . But I had managed DS’s expectations and realise that the schools choose the children who are likely to thrive there so I yield to their judgement. Good luck to all in this process. It’s not easy, painful at times , but ultimately I choose to believe everything happens for a reason.

Yes it seems like the results of ISEB tests, interview, written assessments together with school reports from your DS current school are all taken into account when they decide to make an offer according to their email.

good luck to all for having the right school for your DS!
