How did it go? Was Maths tougher than English for your DS, or the other way around? I guess they are interviewing all Stage 2 boys, correct?

Not too many threads on this, was thinking parents this year keeping things pretty low key…..😅yes, DS said he found English was a bit better than Maths, which was not the same as he usually commented. When is the interview scheduled for yours?

Roses81 · 02/02/2023 13:26

DS found maths difficult. We have not heard about interview date as yet.

Is your DS in a Prep School finishing at Y8? It says boys finishing school at Y6 will be interviewed first between Jan - March.

Roses81 · 02/02/2023 15:53

Ah that makes sense… yes he is at a Prep not finishing till year 8

parent1709 · 02/02/2023 17:40

Dear Roses and Nearlythere

No interview date yet, expect to be told three weeks prior to the date. Early dates are for those who have also applied to 11+ schools (so technically you could be in a prep that finishes in Y8 but still ask for an early slot if you have applied to other 11+ schools). They say the date you are allocated has no bearing on your application. DS prep finishes in Y8 but we have also applied to 11+ schools, so we may or may not get an early slot (I don't recall asking them and not fussed either way).

It's somewhat helpful that the interview is around Maths, English, Science and Humanities rather than the ghastly unpredictable random general chat that most other schools have. Our DS sadly does not impress in general chat interviews with adults (he is SEN and has Sensory Processing Disorder), but I am hopeful he will do better in a more structured interview based around specific curricula questions rather than "why do you like school?" or "what is friendship to you?" or "what are your passions?" type questions (although he loves school, has loads of friends and is passionate about a range of things)

Does anyone know from previous years how much weight is given to the St Pauls 13+ interview (vs ISEB, own test and references). Is the ISEB result taken into account or is the "slate wiped clean" in Stage 2. Also any sense of the number of Stage 2 applicants Vs available seats?

Hi parent1709,
Sorry that I have totally no idea about the questions you have raised......we are not from a traditional feeder school of SPS, so hardly decode the points of each step throughout their selection process. TBH, we are not intend to prepare our DS for the interview specifically given the wide range of subjects and all possible questions. Let the school do their jobs, and believe that our DC would be eventually picked up if they naturally suit there. fingers crossed!

Manogna · 13/02/2023 12:29

Hi, I heard that result is based on ISEB, school reports, written test and interview when we asked the admission team. So you should be good.

Hi Manogna, Just curious if your DS has done the interview already?

Manogna · 13/02/2023 18:04

Yes he did @Nearlythere2023

Nearlythere2023 · 13/02/2023 18:32

How was it going? Can parent be told about DS ranking in the exams? Ours is scheduled in the end of this month, so we can't get result before the deadline of acceptance of 11+ offers....

parent1709 · 03/05/2023 14:26

Dear battle weary parents, any news from St Pauls 13+? Our son has his interview today. Does anyone have a guesstimate for the statistics for the second round (number of stage two applicants Vs offers)?

OP posts:
parent1709 · 11/05/2023 23:08

Bump. Anyone heard back after interview?

OP posts:
Nearlythere2023 · 12/05/2023 04:33

We heard back later in the same week as interview, mainly because it was approaching the ddl of 11+ offers acceptance.

mamamag · 04/10/2023 14:25

hi, what questions did your DS have at the interview? do they have to read, comment text, do maths exercises? Or are they more personal, as what hobbies etc? Thanks

mrDoubt · 09/01/2024 09:55

Any parents whos DS wrote St pauls boys 13 plus entrance for 2026?

mamamag · 09/01/2024 14:51

Hi, my son passed the tests and did interview, but we were told he is in the waiting list and can get a place anytime until next september, 13+, anyone knows what are the chances to get in when at the short list waiting list?

mrDoubt · 09/01/2024 19:17

hi @mamamag . Am a bit confused. The 13 plus tests were only held on 9th Jan 2024. I think you are talking about 2025 entry.

My son wrote the exam for 2026

mamamag · 10/01/2024 01:40

Hi, my son did the tests late last year, for the 2024 entry.
Anyway, my question is how likely it is to get a place when at the reserve list... anyone knows? Thanks.

mrDoubt · 25/01/2024 16:30

@mamamag
I think something is incorrect. He cannot write the test in 2023 for 2024 entry. My son wrote the test in Jan 2024 ( second stage after ISEB) for entry in 2026.

Presume we are talking about 13 plus

mamamag · 25/01/2024 16:47

It is called 13+ late entry ;)
