Perse School 13+ (VR and humanities)

Hello mums!

we are considering applying for Perse School( Cambridge) 13+ for my daughter.

From the website I found some sample papers (English and Maths) , but no samples for VR and humanities.

Really confused about this. Does anyone know how to prepare for VR and humanities for Perse 13+? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you not being advised by your prep school?

Hi my daughter is not in a prep school so we don’t have any advice for that.

Have you been in touch with the school? 13plus entrance is usually geared towards Common Entrance, which only prep schools prepare for. If you speak to them and explain that you are coming from state they'll surely advice you. VR is usually a computer based mix of vocabulary and comprehension questions, but it's usually adaptive, so the better you are the harder the questions get, but again, check with school admission.

Thanks Nelly, I have contacted school but they don’t have any exam papers on VR or humanities available. I guess they wish to avoid over tutored children, which is understandable. Thanks for your explanation again!

I wouldn't worry too much - I have always had a strong suspicion that selectivity isn't that high.

I took the 11+ entry exams for The Perse a long while back (this is going back years now when I attended) for The Perse.

For the verbal reasoning, I used the standard 11+ books that you can find from any book store.

I didn't have any humanities paper to sit.

I had some good times at the school.

The 13+ VR at Perse is similar to the 11+ as both are administered at almost the same age. So any standard 11+ VR book will help with this.

Not sure how to prepare for Humanities, but they do say ‘not to prepare’ so should be straight forward!

@NellyBarney 13+ is not common entrance exams any more, most schools administer this in Y6 now for entry into Y9, so very similar to the 11+ exams. Most schools have scrapped (or on the way to scrapping) the CEE.

My Ds did the entrance exam for the Perse in Year 6. He was at a state primary. He practiced literally two practice papers from those non -verbal reasoning books you can buy. He was offered a place but we didn't accept.

I think they don't expect kids from state schools to have been prepared in the same way as kids from independents.

Having said that, the kids I know from state schools who got in have all been very bright.

I saw some conversation a little while ago around VR. There are different styles of VR, GL, CEM and ISEB. Could anyone tell which style the Perse school use for their VR test? Many thanks
