Hi,
I have recently moved to UK and has taken a rented house in Ruislip now and I need to find a place for my 2 children in secondary school in hillingdon. Can anyone help me by giving their experience with the following schools in this hillingdon?
Ruislip High
Bishop Ramsay
Vyner
Northwood
Haydon
I got call from Haydon saying that they have place in year 8 and 9 but I have heard some disturbing news about this school from one of my friends. So I am not very sure I should apply here :-(

Can someone who has kids studying in Haydon help me understand whether it is safe for kids who are new in the UK to join here?

I got response from Northwood saying that my sons are at waiting list # 18 and 30 . - Is there a chance of getting a place for this position on the waiting list?

Also, I have applied through council, and given 4 options of schools. is it useful if I directly go to these schools and apply?

You have to apply via the council. It is very unlikely waiting lists will move fast enough in years 8 and 9 or later, even in London, although if one got a place the other may move up as a sibling if that is a priority criteria. Presumably you need places asap.

If you get a choice of schools perhaps choose on the basis of which get children into the best universities at 18 (for schools with a sixth form).

Avoid ruislip Highschool! Minority children are disproportionately sanctioned and targeted by school disciplinary policy /senior team.

It's a very leafy middle class suburb and the schools are all fine. Vyners is usually the most sought after. Bishop Ramsey is fairly religious, the people I know who send their kids there are are very active in the local Baptist church. The rest are all much of a muchness. Find out where there are available places and pick the one you like best (if you have a choice). Other options in the broader area are Nower Hill High, Pinner High and Queensmead.

My neighbours children went to Haydon and both went to University and are doing well. I don’t live far from it and all the kids that walk past my house all look well behaved.

Thanks a lot for all the replies.☺️
Both my kids joined Haydon two weeks back. They are slowly settling in.

Hi Usha

Can you please let me know your experience with Haydon. I have just moved to the area and have been offered a place in Haydon for my ds in Year 10.

Hi Usha and Anxiousmom123,

I am sailing in the same boat today which you guys have sailed through now. Could you both or even others whose kids are in Haydon, please share the genuine reviews about the school. I have been reading about a lot of behavioural issues in children. We have just come into the Country and I need smooth transition for my twins. We are looking admission is Year 8.

Hi @ConfusedtwinsMom
My kids studied in Haydon for 5 months and then got place in ruislip high school. Haydon is good school with respect to subject options available for gcse. But my kids told me that in year 8 and 9 they didn't have teachers for some subjects. That is the reason we changed to ruislip high school as my children were going into gcse year. About behavioral issues, havent faced much problems..but as it is a big school, teachers are not strict as compared to ruislip high.

Thank you Usha for your prompt reply. I too wish to apply in Ruislip High but it seems there is no vacancy at the moment and the school
is oversubscribed. How is the experience wit h Ruislip high? Also coming from India, have your kids settled now? Did they face any challenge in any ways?

Hi @ConfusedtwinsMom
We are satisfied with ruislip high. teachers are good and is very strict in terms of discipline and behaviour.
My kids were able to settle well with in 2-3 months after coming here and didn't face much problems in either of the schools.
I would advise you to apply in Ruislip High and other nearby schools which has outstanding/good rating. they will contact you as soon as they have a place available.
