Atlantic College UWC selection

My son has been offered an interview and assessment process at Atlantic College. Does anyone have any insight or experience of the process? Any experience of UWC is also welcomed; particularly from the point of view of current or former parents.

According to my son the selection letters go out on Saturday. This is going to be a long week! He said he saw it on the IG account. Good luck!

Good luck to him

All the best and fingers crossed to your DS. It would be really interesting to hear about his experiences, interviews and the like.

He didn’t get in, but they’ve invited him to reapply next year. He says he will, and naturally he is disappointed but he’s ok. It’s a very positive rejection letter!

Sorry to hear that.

The UK has a low acceptance rate.

WEEonline · 12/02/2023 03:52

How can you tell which country has a lower acceptance rate?

By talking to people.

Mauritius for example only has about 30 applications and allocates about 15 places.

Each National Committee is allowed a certain number of places. You are technically allowed to apply to any NC where you are a citizen or a resident but each NC has their own rules about that.

WEEonline · 12/02/2023 22:04

Makes sense. Do you happen to know the typical allocation-application rate for the UK by any chance?

Temporaryanonymity · 14/02/2023 23:00

Five people applied from my son’s school and 1 person was offered a place in one of the Asia schools. I know for sure that there is a place for a Welsh student who can demonstrate leadership skills, so there’s at least one Welsh student per year!

So if this was representative sample, then we could say that roughly 5 candidates for each scholarship place at the UK NC?

Temporaryanonymity · 16/02/2023 22:42

Perhaps! I met a family at the selection day that had sent two daughters through the NC and were there with their third daughter. I’ve no idea how many apply though.

Some Stats

Lithuania 100 students for 3 scholarship places

Portugal 300 students for 6 scholarship places

Uganda 500 students for 20 places

Just jumping on here to see if there are any ex pupils of UWC (oversees not Atlantic) that could share their experiences, negative or positive ?

More Stats

Brazil 3000 applications. Less than 20 places offered.
