Horticulture Apprenticeship at Kew

This is a bit of a longshot, but I'm wondering if anyone here has a kid who did the botanical horticulture apprenticeship at Kew gardens? My son is really keen on the idea. He will likely get 6-8s in his GCSEs and already volunteers at Kew on Saturdays. My questions are:
Is it a level 2 apprenticeship or level 3 (I think it's 2)? If 2 is that quite limiting? Should he do A levels first to broaden his options and make it easier to do a degree later? And would that be possible? What did others do who take this apprenticeship?
He wants to go on to work as a ranger or in forestry, when these jobs come up are apprenticeships valued?

It looks like a great program, I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience of it.

I don't know about the Kew apprenticeship, but it's not unusual in apprenticeships generally to go in at the same level as you've already done, and essentially double up on qualifications.

Bearing in mind how competitive apprenticeships are, I'd be inclined to apply now and see if he gets it, then come back to A levels later if it doesn't continue to the next level after. It's a fantastic opportunity!

That's useful, thanks @fredafrenchfancy I've found out that it is level 2

I work in horticulture, from what I've seen qualifications from Kew or RHS wisley are highly regarded, I don't think the level would make too much of a difference, its more about having studied at a place with such high standards.
