My 16 year old son did well in GCSES. In spite of having 2 college offers decided to stay on at school for A levels. He hates being in school, noy as much structure He would like to do an apptenticeship as he wants to earn and be working Weve applied but no responses what other alternatives are thete as we've been told full time education until he's 18?

Needmorelego · 15/11/2022 21:21

@Mysam whoever told you that is wrong.
He doesn't have to be in full time education until 18 at all.
Please look on gov.org and it will tell you everything there.

This is what it says...the 3rd option clearly states that he could be working full time.

Apprenticeship after either GCSEs or A-Levels

While in education or training.

@titchy yes but technically that means he could work full time (ie 35 -40 hours a week) while doing a 2 hour one afternoon a week college course and tbh if he drops out of the college course there is no consequence to it.
