Wondering if you had any insider view on Brandlehow primary in Putney…it’s supposed to be in the top 10% results wise but speaking with some parents of current students it’s not academic? I understand that around 20% go private for secondaries and was curious to understand if anyone knew any names of typical ones to gauge the level of preparation (appreciate lots of tutoring is involved but still)…thank you all 😀

Appreciate it’s an old thread but I too would be interested in views, also re:

  • st Mary’s
  • our lady of Victories
  • hotham

@Southwest22 what happened in your case?

Jigglypuffff · 27/09/2023 00:32

Love love love Hotham - great community school. Don’t know the others as well but St Mary’s is CofE and OLV is Catholic - latter was caught cheating on Sats a couple of years ago, so take historical data with a pinch of salt. But parents speak well of it still - I think the head changed since. All three are great schools to the best of my knowledge.

@Jigglypuffff thank you!
do you know whether one of these schools is mors ‘churchy’ than the others and if leavers go to private/grammar mote than the other schools?

Sorry no idea! No grammar schools around that I am aware of, and I hear that the calibre of state secondaries round here is such that many parents don’t feel the need to spend money on private schools. I was told that if I wanted a place at the church primaries I would have to ‘pay and pray’ for a year or two beforehand, otherwise remaining places were always allocated to siblings then on distance. No idea if that’s correct though and it was a few years ago now. We wanted a community school with a broad range of pupils, great teaching and good pastoral care and we have that in spades from Hotham, it was the best choice for us and we love the school.
