My ds applied to both and got offers from both. We didn't prep as the schools said it wasn't necessary.

Bedford is a prep school so they should be able to advise on this. Presumably they've recommended you put your ds in for these schools? In which case you don't need to do anything extra.

Register ASAP and in any case by end of year 5
Make sure you take tours of both - they will tell you the admissions process when you visit
Start practicing for ISEB pre-tests on atom learning
The rest is down to you following the schools' instructions and your son being himself in interviews!

For Winchester the critical element in admissions is the Housemaster, who selects boys (and for some houses, girls) rather than a central selection process that allocates successful candidates to a House. So when your initial visits to Houses are arranged, not underestimate the two way importance of getting it right. It’s not just you deciding which House you prefer, it’s the Housemaster deciding which children to admit to their long list, without securing which they can’t progress. Housemasters should be skilled at discerning ability and attitude unobtrusively but don’t be fooled into thinking the House tours are only for your benefit. Without wanting to make your DS nervous, it’s important that he engage positively with the HM, ready to speak about himself, his interests etc..

ETON has an excellent website from where you can learn almost everything that you want to know about the school and its application procedure.

I would stress that you must register your son with the School as soon as possible and most certainly before he is ten-and-a-half years old.

Click on the link here and scroll to near the centre of the page where you'll see the Online Prospectus. On page 12 and 13 of the prospectus you'll learn about its entrance procedure. Better still, read up everything here and the website in general. Good luck.
