As this is for an EHCP a diagnosis won’t necessarily be any more helpful than SALT/OT/EP as EHCPs are based on needs rather than diagnosis, with the exception of e.g. wanting a specialist autism school and in some LAs the specialist ASD teaching team.

I love choc your amazing !
honestly !
my son unfortunately has problems across all subjects, he can not maintain focus, teachers tell me he won’t put pen to paper, he is distracted by everything he is able to work when sat with someone and prompted I can get him to work at home but have to sit with him and literally keep bringing his focus back to his work, he has problems around social communication, he doesn’t have any friends he comes across rude doesn’t understand the concepts of play he is VERY self directed. He’s two older siblings have autism but they have classic traits (one of his siblings is low function in special school severe autism the other high function very able mainstream) I would say he has adhd traits but not classic autism traits
100% SEN because the teachers all say so he is two years behind in school work

thanks for all your help !!

SEN provision is based on needs, not diagnosis. Any school or LA refusing to provide support or giving reduced provision because a pupil doesn’t have a diagnosis is acting unlawfully.

If the school are supportive, ask if they can do a referral to Creative Solutions Psychology. Its a CIC in Kent and i believe is free for the school to access. Dr Alicja Jedrzejewska recently assessed my son and she is fantastic.

That’s why I wanted to get he’s needs assessed by EP and SaLT I just get more information from these reports they helped so much it’s gives me an idea not only of what he needs in school but also what I can do at home and provide he’s tutors with ways to help too.

As well as SALT/OT/EP an EHCNA can include assessments by a psychiatrist &/or clinical psychologist without the need to sit on the normal waiting lists.

OP what I was trying to say - if you got his accessed for adhd around £800 and he did have inactive adhd and you did want to go down the medicine route - it could be a fix.
If it’s lack of focus - classic adhd.

my son can not do certain subjects as he finds it “boring” however when he’s on stim adhd meds he can do a double lesson of maths and other lessons which are too boring in his eyes 😂 He finds life so much more interesting with adhd meds so it’s a benefit to him…..

Not meds are for everyone but sometimes I think it’s better to help if your child is just not able to concentrate …..

Maybe that would help him massively

Good luck

Wiredmum · 02/10/2022 12:10

That’s awesome if my son sat still for 2 minutes at maths I’d be impressed 🤭 if I could find someone to do a Adhd assessment for 800 that would be great so far all I’ve found is 2000 🤦‍♀️ I’m all for meds if it improves life’s outcomes! There are a lot of things that impact life expectancy more than meds you need to find a balance

Two that have been recommended to me this week (waiting lists) are Dr Paul Kelly and Dr Leanne Short.

Do not use Dr Paul Kelly!! Overpriced and doesn’t know what he’s talking about at all. You are paying high amounts for cut and paste - stay far back.

Whereabouts are you OP? We used Starjumpz in Crowborough (Kent) for ADHD and ADOS. It was £1800 ish for both and the QB Check for ADHD was the cheaper part.
