Those of you who have weathered the stress of GCSEs- is it a good idea to book an Easter break in the uk for the week across the Easter weekend?

yes or no?

No- it’s just before exams and it’s better to be home revising

yes- a change is as good as a rest. Put things in perspective and catch a breath

Yep I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a united response on mumsnet. I’ve definitely got the JUST NO message!!!

It's also not just about revision classes. We went away for a weekend in the November and DS spent half the weekend alone at the cottage revising. Wasn't much fun for him but he had mocks in the week before Christmas.

Should add I wouldn't do it again.

No
Well not whole time ...possibly a night away not too far from home to give them a treat / break but nothing more

bigbadbarry · 27/09/2022 06:52

I think a couple of days can be a good idea if you have a child who is organised and has worked hard. A break can be very refreshing

Not for the full two weeks but over the Easter weekend is fine surely? Not healthy for them to be revising every day without a break.

We did but also took them out during term time in Alevel year.

DD would have been unbearably stressed if we had done that to her.

That said, her 4 night geography field trip to New York was during the first week of the Easter holidays in year 13.

My Ds is doing his GCSEs this year and we are not going anywhere. Also mocks straight after Xmas so not going away then either, it's just a year.

QueenofLouisiana · 27/09/2022 07:18

No, I wouldn't. We are going away in February half term as DS will have done his A Level mocks after Christmas and will need Easter to do revision sessions, sleep in his own bed etc. We may go for a couple of nights at Easter walking or similar so that he gets some exercise and fresh air.

No this isn't a good idea. My school put in revision lessons in easter so they would miss out. I'm sure there is course work still getting done too.

Perhaps as a last minuet get away for say a long weekend or one half the week if you and DC and DC teachers were more than content they were on top of their work load then I might but personally I would leave it until after their exams.
