Hello.
is there any site, for maths like Explore Learning that allows you to bring your personal math questions/ problems, instead of just following their generic questions. Basically DS has some problem areas in maths, eg fraction, area ,etc. DS has been on explore, personal tutor 1 hour, but I feel like I am not getting what I want. The specific areas we need aren’t been met in depth, you have to go through the ‘generic questions’ tutor can’t really work with him on our problem areas, of course some fraction questions comes on, but that’s not helping. What to do for son. I am really confused. I need specific help. Please help. I have tried Ed place as well.

As no-one has answered you, I'll chime in. Not that I know of for GCSE but Khan academy does divide up by topics into very small chunks so you might be able to get videos and questions specific to a very small and focussed chunk of the topic you're looking for. - Good luck

It would be helpful if you told us his age. If you don't want to, at least tell us his Key Stage so we can give you some helpful input.

I second Khan

What about corbett maths?
Or ask a specific question here and we can try to help?

LionessesRules · 18/09/2022 11:38

I don't know the program you are trying to find an alternative for, but IXL allows you to search by subsection and year.

Why can't the tutor assist with the problem areas? Surely that's what you are paying them for?

NotYourOscarSpeech · 18/09/2022 12:33

Eedi has a tutor option, you can sign up for a trial and within the lessons can access live tutor support inc homework help. All qualified, DBS checked maths teachers.

Explore learning has a set of pre set questions they need to do each time we meet as everything has been pre scheduled, so the tutor can’t really deviate much from what he has to do that day. It just doesn’t work for me and I feel like I am not getting what DS needs.

You need a different tutor then. One that can focus on the child's needs and tutor, rather than follow a prescribed lesson.

PassMeThePineapple · 18/09/2022 20:18

A friend's dd worked as a tutor for Explore learning. She was a sixth former who got 6 in maths gcse and wasn't doing Maths A level. I believe they just help the kids work through computer programmes. It's not the same as having a proper maths tutor.

Billymillie · 18/09/2022 21:00

Exactly what I noticed. The ‘tutors’ aren’t equipped with just doing questions outside the pre scheduled work.

Explore Learning is rubbish.
Very expensive and basically you work through a pre set lessons etc.
If you get any sort of one to one tutor, it shoudl cost less per month than explore learning and they will focus it on your sons needs

steppemum · 18/09/2022 21:10

and most of the tutors are not trained teachers at explore learning

Billymillie · 20/09/2022 15:48

Have you used them, Eedi? I am just checking them out now. Thank you

I was afraid to say this because there’s so much rave about it, it was nonsense for me! I paid a private tutor on the explore learning platform and still couldn’t get him to do homework with DS!!

Had to come back to say thank you!! Been using Eedi for about 2 weeks now. Love it. Ds can call for help and a tutor comes and explains to him. So much better than explore learning. I get reports on how much work he did and his growth. Thank you so much again. Let me be an Oliver Twist and ask for Science and English, you know any good sites? Year 8.
