We looked at this school last year for Reception 2023 and still not 100% but location wise when we move in the next 6 months it would be the most suitable (and there was lots we liked about it). However, we have heard that the Head has left and wondering if any current parents can reassure us it’s a solid option? It seems to get mixed opinions! Our other favourites are further away but we can make them work.

Hi @TattyS We looked at SJB but decided against it for several reasons. I liked it though - especially the pre-prep. I know a few recent parents too. Happy to chat if you want to PM me. Hopefully this will also give you a bump!

DS is in preprep at SJB and I can’t recommend highly enough. The reception teacher especially. There have been recent changes but new head has been appointed - he’s from Donhead in Wimbledon and was former deputy head at SJB before taking up his current headship. Parents are generally talking very positively about this. The interim head is also v good. Hope this helps!

I concur, 2 boys currently at SJB and they both love the school. Lots of opportunities across sport, music, drama etc etc. Old head was difficult to replace, and the news of our new head has been warmly received (especially by those who remember him). Some positive changes in curriculum in the upper school too, and lots of support around selecting and writing for secondary schools.

Oh I hadn’t seen the announcement of the head yet - I’ve been looking out as I have a historical connection to the school so was curious. Wow - that choice is very different to last head (GD) - not necessarily a bad thing but they seem like chalk and cheese!
