I thought these schools were getting more aware after the Everyone’s Invited furore.

It's an article in the Daily Mail therefore it's almost certainly lies. I wouldn't take it with a pinch of salt, more like a huge road-gritting depot worth of salt.

dipdips · 30/08/2022 07:55

@tonicwaterparty It is a foul paper isn't it! They do have names though which suggests there is some truth in it.

It’s “their” truth which is not quite the same. Former pupils so it’s not right now.

dipdips · 31/08/2022 22:26

@TizerorFizz current governors?

They wouldn’t publish that about a load of top lawyers / QCs unless they were confident it was true.

TizerorFizz · 31/08/2022 22:50

I guess it depends if you instantly dismiss someone for gross misconduct regarding such an allegation. Obviously there’s a disagreement on whether dismissal is appropriate. We don’t know why this is. It’s not clear who has investigated this and the assumption is it’s true would inform those who say the teacher should be dismissed. I would expect an investigation to take place whilst the teacher was suspended. It’s difficult to know who is truthful without an investigation. Or we go down the Carl Beech route and believe everything you are told.,Am I right in thinking there’s no court case pending?

The Times now reporting it

I can't see what the school have done wrong here. An old pupil made an allegation but has refused to speak to the police or even speak formally to the school. You can't sack someone for that

dipdips · 01/09/2022 08:13

@SavingsThreads Clearly there is a lot more to this story than can yet be reported. Governors of that calibre do not step down over nothing. I would suggest there have been multiple allegations but until the victims feel they can go to the police the school cannot be seen to get rid of the accused. Really really messy. This was rife when I was at public school many moons ago, but much rarer now.

The teacher could be suspended pending an investigation. If people will not go to the police it makes it difficult. However a school can act without a police investigation. They can dismiss for gross misconduct on less than required by a court. Even on bringing the school into disrepute. The employee might say it’s unfair dismissal though. This is why it’s difficult and no doubt has divided opinion .
