Maths query - what is a "hundred square"?

I've just seen a mention of this on DD's curriculum overview for the term, but I haven't got a clue what it is. Can anyone help please?

I know - we have one !! It is quite simply a Square - like a grid - with the numbers 1 to 100 laid out left to right, so that 11 is beneath 1, 12 is beneath 2, 21 is beneath 11, 31 is under 21, so all the 1's are in a column, all the 2's are in a column etc

They seem to use them to understand how small or big a number is relative to another !
