‘Smart’ outfit

Hi there, apologies for the niche topic.

DD is off to boarding school and needs a ‘smart outfit’ for church and ‘other events’. What does this mean for 11/12 year olds, and what would constitute a smart coat, which I guess she’ll need as well. She wears a lot of casual gear and has a couple of dresses, but nothing that I’d call out as a ‘smart outfit’.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I don't have girls, but my interpretation of a boy's equivalent would be something a bit preppy eg a pair of cotton trousers with an open-neck nice shirt and a non-logo jumper on top if it's cold, along with a pair of shoes not trainers (school shoes?). That's the kind of thing my boys would wear if we were going out for a smart occasion and I had to persuade them out of their normal track bottoms. So I guess the female equivalent of that?
