We are looking at state boarding schools for our 13 year old daughter and are speaking with the Duke of York Royal Military School (DOYRMS) in Devon. Our daughter is very sporty and has expressed an interest in joining the army, so on these levels it seems like a good fit. However, we would appreciate any current or recent experience as to the school.
If possible I would be really interested in understanding the profile and experience of students that are not from military backgrounds, how they are accepted, whether they felt supported, do they do as well as those from serving families etc. We are not a military family and this would be our daughter's first direct experience of boarding, though she is keen to give it a go so long as there is plenty of opportunity for sports.
I think it looks like the school has something unique to offer, but would be really grateful for the views of those with experience.
