I’m currently looking at schools for my two DDs (in year 5 and 10) for year 7 and sixth form in Oxford. I have found Rye St Anthony. I like the look of the website and I have read good stuff online but I was wondering if anyone on here has more local knowledge? Academic and pastoral are both important but I want to make sure I get it right!

Hello. Just spotted your post. I’m in a similar boat, and following also, hoping for others with knowledge to comment. I don’t know the school, but have also seen their website, and heard positive things, and I might be interested for my Y5 daughter. Open Day is on 24 September. It looks quite small, which could be a positive. Good luck

If you are looking for academic yet pastoral in Oxford had you also considered Wychwood School?

My DD has just started at Rye St Antony and she adores it. We chose it for its pastoral reputation and we have not been let down. Since starting she is a different child, so happy at the beginning and end of each day. We are very pleased with our choice. It’s grounds and facilities are gorgeous too.

@13pm my daughter is looking for a school that is ‘calm (as in well structured and having an atmosphere where she can concentrate and learn), challenging and fun’. From your DDs experience, would Rye St Anthony fit that description?

Hi, my daughter started this September and I have already seen an academic improvement. She is given a lot of attention by the teacher as the classes are so small and has been sent to the headmistress 3 times for showing good effort and kindness which really boosted her confidence. She is involved in lots of extra curricular activities and just comes out beaming everyday. We are pleased we made the change and Rye seems to want to foster an inclusive and kind environment which is very student focused so we are happy.

OP - are you still looking?
Wychwood School is possibly the most nurturing school in Oxford. Very inclusive, very individual, very mixed academically - from struggling girls, to Oxbridge girls.
