Any current King Alfred’s (Hampstead) parents on here?

We’re moving back to London and I am considering this school for my kids.

I went on a tour a few years ago and liked it, though didn’t love it; but have subsequently been on a lot more tours which make me like King Alfred’s more!

Any current parents on here? What do you think of it?

Out of curiosity which other schools did you see that make you like King Alfred's more?

Bumping as I'm interested to hear

DD starts KAS 6th Form tomorrow (06.09.22) from external school. Really like the school and staff are very friendly

Peasinapod9 · 05/09/2022 20:48

That’s good to hear, mayfair! Did she go to a state school before? Or a different private?

i’m also interested to know if most parents are local?

North Bridge House, a private school in Hampstead.

MayfairW1 · 06/09/2022 00:16

We live 2 straightforward bus rides away in Little Venice and assuming a 30-40 minute journey

Peasinapod9 · 06/09/2022 09:47

We probably live the same distance in the other direction (east)! Ours would be coming from state school.

I was just wondering how usual it would be to commute over!

Don’t forget free bus pass and reduced cost tubes!
schools have informal advisory of no more than an hour commute

Beautiful grounds, great school theatre (my daughter used to perform there when her drama group rented it). It's I think a very nurturing, artsy, but not at all(!) academic school from what I understand. It's more free spirited

Hi, I have a child at KAS. We viewed many schools before settling on KAS, including Habs, Highgate, Mill Hill amongst others. The main thing we noticed about KAS was the maturity and confidence of the Y5 children giving us the tour, they were fantastic adverts for the school - eloquent, kind, happy, confident and well-rounded, which was in stark contrast to their counterparts which we encountered from the other schools. The school teaches kids without putting pressure on them, and they are proactive when kids are at risk of falling behind. My child runs happily in to the classroom every day and we feel like we are part of a lovely community. The setting is also great, lots of green space and a small farm with chickens, rabbits, ducks etc.

Most people are based in NW London, Queen’s Park, Hampstead, West Hampstead, Belsize Park, Highgate, Camden.

Turned down a 6th form place as the journey was too much but we were seriously impressed. The a levels results are excellent given it’s pretty much non selective.

Thank you for your comments so far!

I have another couple of questions - does the school run a school bus service from any area to the school?

Also - what’s the turnover like? Do kids tend to stay? And do they spend a lot of time outdoors?

A rushed answer but re ‘time outdoors’ aerial shot of school. All that greenery is King Alfred’s and the school buildings are to the perimeter

Is there a school bus that collects children form these areas? Thank you!
