Hi, just wondering if anyone on here has some experience with Benedict house school in Sidcup? We are considering this school for our children. We went to visit and felt that the school was a little run down with terrible facilities, although the children looked happy. So we scratched it off our list of options. Now we have found out they are doing major refurbishment and its set to double in size.
The results are exceptional with 100% pass rates for 11+ which is great but I do hope the take a gentle and fun approach to learning and its not a pressurised environment.
Also the fees are super low in comparison to neighbouring schools and wondering why that is, what could they be compromising on?

Anyway, any feedback at all welcome x

Hi

my son goes there, school is set to get bigger with much better facilities. Class sizes should decrease aswell.

good school but lacks communication from
headmaster, updates are not sent regularly. Very lazy admin.

teaching is good, school lets itself down on the basics but overall it does the job and children seem very happy and challenged.

@Kentmummys thank you so much!

What do you mean by basics?

Would you send any future children there?
Whats the after school provision & clubs like?
Do they do much in terms of music tuition?
Is there any involvement/ events with the parents?

Thanks a million!

Basic communication is poor, not many updates sent to parents from the school or teachers.

school clubs are run by teachers so not professionals it’s more based on the teachers knowledge.
they do breakfast and wrap around care.

i like the school and my son is happy, yes I would send future children there.

parents are not invited in much and not many people live close to the school. Are you sidcup way?

the thing with Benedict house is the results are great and small class sizes so your child gets individual attention.

if you want bells and whistles and great facilities then it’s not the school for you. I know it’s all being improved over summer, when is your child set to join?

Thanks so much.

Tbh its what I expect. The most important thing to me really is the standard of learning, nurturing and the music tuition options as DD is really interested in the piano and i'd like to expose her to more instruments.

We live in Chislehurst/New Eltham so not far at all.
We're set to Join preschool after the October half term

Where about are you? Is there not much communication between parents then as well?

Mrs Sheldon and the ladies she works with are the jewel in the crown of the school.
they run the preschool and are fantastic, the children advance so much in her care.

I am sidcup and in my sons year I am the only one to live walking distance to the school.

some parents are involved and friendly, covid obviously made it hard for us to connect but the most recent fete was a hit and a lot of parents connected.

the music teacher is also fantastic.

if you need any more info let me know, what your looking for it I think it ticks the boxes.

This has helped me so much! Thank you!

I really do think BH could be a hidden jewel in many ways. Once the renovations are done I reckon it'll only get better and the good academics is the perfect foundation to build on.

I have another quick visit in September so may message you again then! thanks a mil and have a great weekend xx

Thanks. we're about 95% decided on sending here there at minimum until year 3. Ok last question. Do they do extra instrument tuition at an extra cost? and if so do they do Piano and Violin?

OP posts:
Kentmummys · 29/07/2022 22:03
